About the Play

मुआवज़े is one of Bhisham Sahni's most successful plays. Set in an unnamed city in modern India, it is a hilarious account of how a modern city awaits a riot, and how everyone seeks to profit by it. This was an experimental play, performed in a room with the audience seated in sections and performers moving among them.
