The Odd Couple

The Odd Couple
Playwright: Neil Simon
Director: Mukund Marathe
Male Version: The Odd Couple is a story of two divorced people – neurotic neat-freak Fanindra Upadhyay and fun-loving slob Oscar Mendoza – who decide to live together, even though their personalities clash. The play premiered to great success on Broadway in 1965, and led to a 1968 film, a 1970s television series, and many other derivative works and spin-offs. Female Version: Neil Simon’s revision of his highly successful play, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters transformed into two women. In our adaptation, Geeta is enjoying her weekly game-night with her friends. As the game continues, Suman arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Suman might attempt suicide, Geeta invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Geeta and Suman have very different personalities. Comedy arises when their friendship is tested to the limit.
