K. K.

A Naatak Original

Playwright: Sujit Saraf
Director: Sujit Saraf
Producer: Asheesh Divetia
Connaught Place, Delhi: K.K. arrives on a warm morning in pursuit of his sole passion, and finds his way through fruit vendors, card players, booksellers, security guards, shoppers, shopkeepers, film goers, gangsters and gold smugglers. Each is an enemy in K.K.'s mind; each takes something from him. This is the hilarious story of how K.K. avenges himself on the people he meets, on Connaught Place and on the city itself. There are hundreds of characters in the play but a single actor, who walks through imaginary crowds to talk, quarrel, sing, cry, fight, lose and win. There is no intermission and the set is fluid, changing continuously on wheels even as K.K. moves through it.

About the Play

Muhammad Bin Tughlaq (1325-1351) is widely regarded as the most eccentric sultan to ever rule Delhi. He has been variously depicted as a genius and a fool, a compassionate ruler and a cruel monarch held captive by his whims. This play selects the most interesting incidents from the sultan’s life to illustrate the enigma that Tughlaq remains for historians to this day.
