About the Play

After listening to the Bhagavad Gita recited by Lord Krishna, Arjun decides not to fight the battle of Mahabharat. He leads the Pandavs away from the battle field into a forest, where, followed by Draupadi, Duryodhan, and Krishna, and tutored by an 'anti-Krishna', they re-write Bhagavad Gita as a book fit for an atheist. The entire play rhymes.

Creators

Mahesh Umasankar
Mahesh Umasankar has been actively involved in theater for over 20 years, a passion he inherited from his parents who founded and ran a professional theater company in their yester years. He has been actively associated with Naatak, An Independent Film and Theater Organization in the role of director, actor and various other production duties. This eventually launched him into the movies in the year 2000. He made his debut on the silver screen as an actor in the critically acclaimed “Bugaboo” a warm parody about immigrant life in the Silicon Valley. But, his strong desire has always been to create and perform behind the scenes. A casual meeting with Ram culminated in the creation of “The Seine”. An Engineer by profession, he has constantly tried to bridge logical thought process and creative thinking in the field of moviemaking with reasonably favorable results. Inspired by the fascinating experiences of working with other filmmakers, he continues to explore opportunities to enhance that. He intends to enter mainstream filmmaking in the near future.
Ram Padmanabhan
Ram Padmanabhan, 26, born and raised in Bombay, India came to the US 6 years ago. After completing his Electrical Engineering in Ohio, he moved to California in search of a job. He has been living in Northern California ever since. While pursuing his undergraduate degree in Bombay, he was actively involved in directing, writing and acting in short plays. He left India thinking it was the end of his theater career. In 2001, Ram made two shorts (3 and 7 minutes) after educating himself in Film and Television at DeAnza College. This movie ‘The Seine’ started off as his idea which he spoke to Mahesh about, and they ended up writing it together. It is his first venture into a movie of this length. He does have intentions to quit his career (engineering) someday, as he hates filming on weekends only.
